How much influence does a paraplanner really have?

by Martin Vaughan on 4 May 2008

For the past few years I have wondered just how much influence a paraplanner has over the choice of product and provider. As paraplanners it is our job to ensure we are aware of all the developments within the industry, all the new products that are available and the differences between one product and another. It is often the paraplanner who will do the research into finding a suitable product and provider to match the clients needs and objectives, therefore they are naturally the ones who will make the initial recommendation to the adviser.

I wonder how often the advisers act on the recommendations from their paraplanners and whether the adviser is more likely to act on the recommendation from an experienced paraplanner. I have my own views based on my experiences; for now though, please add your vote by clicking here or add your comments below.

But not just this I would like to see whether experience also plays a part so could you also say how much experience you have by indicating the following categories:

  1. 0-2 years
  2. 3-5 years
  3. 6-10 years
  4. 11-15 years
  5. 16 years +

If you have any further comments please feel free to add them – they’d be really helpful.
