Freelance paraplanner Cathi Harrison has been shortlisted for an entrepreneurship award just three months after starting up her own business, Darlington-based Para-Sols.
She made it through the first round of the Shell LiveWire Young Entrepreneur Awards and stands to win £10,000 if she scoops the award. She will have to pitch her business to the LiveWire judges in London if she makes it to the next stage.
‘It is such a huge award. I did not expect to get anywhere,’ said 26-year-old Cathi (pictured), who used to work at Harrogate-based Brook Dobson-Brear and set up Para-Sols in June.
She was inspired to start her own business after spotting a gap in the market in the north-east. She said her daily commute had in part prompted her. ‘I started to look for something in the north-east and saw a lot of advisers needed support.’ Guidance from freelance paraplanners Martin Vaughan and Richard Allum helped her in setting up, she said.
Thanks for the name checks Cathi and good luck in the awards.
